AuZtralia board game by Martin Wallace

Created by SchilMil Games (Amanda Milne)

AuZtralia is an adventure/exploration game for up to 4 players set in an alternate reality 1930s. The theme is inspired by Martin Wallace's game A Study in Emerald. It can be played competitively, or as a solo game or as a fully co-operative game.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Fulfilment dates - our best ETA
over 1 year ago – Mon, Sep 24, 2018 at 01:11:09 AM

Hi Auztralians world-wide.

This update is all about getting the games into your hands!

The copies for customers in Asia went by road and are already at the fulfilment centre and should be shipping to backers this week.

The ships carrying AuZtralia further distances are steaming, chugging, avoiding typhoons and generally doing what ships do when full of containers.  The first one arrived at its destination in Sydney this weekend, the one coming to NZ is only a few days away.

I have set out a table showing the best estimates from all our partners of when the deliveries will happen. Please be aware that these estimates might be affected by hold ups at the customs clearance stage, or if the fulfilment houses are very busy with other games that arrived sooner.

I will send more details about fulfilment as it starts to happen. I will also be letting you know exactly how the 'Local pick up' option will work in those countries that offered it.

When you get your copy, please shout about it, photograph it and generally let the world know!

Once again, many thanks for all your support, chat, patience and goodwill. It has been an amazing project to have been a part of.

Ships being loaded, addresses locked
over 1 year ago – Tue, Sep 04, 2018 at 01:25:20 AM

A quick follow-up to last week's news, to let you know that the manufacturing is complete!   Ships are booked and the games will be leaving China within hours/days depending on the destination.

Expected ETA (at ports)

  • Europe: 5th-11th October
  • USA/Canada: 6th October
  • Australia/NZ: 21st September
  • Brazil - TBC
  • Asia - TBC but likely to be sooner than all the above.

So, we must move this project closer to its grand finale!  I am going to trigger the address locking process on BackerKit today. I believe this sends everyone a reminder to check their address details and change them if necessary, with a 48 hour window to do so.  Please respond quickly if your address has changed!

One of the pallets headed to New Zealand...

Auztralian birdlife...

I visited Martin Wallace in Queensland for the weekend just gone. He was excited to see the proof copy of AuZtralia. We chatted about some top secret projects and played a few games, including Western Legends and El Dorado. He also took us to see a pelican feeding:

The mass of pelicans were very well behaved - even when fish remains were flying through the air - so I presume they were not controlled by the Old Ones.

Finally, I want to let you know that another Martin Wallace game has just launched on Kickstarter. I highly recommend you check out Nanty Narking, the reimplementation of Discworld Ankh-Morpork - here now.

Until next time.

Good news and bad news...
over 1 year ago – Sun, Aug 26, 2018 at 02:03:18 AM

Greetings from chilly New Zealand,

Just when we thought the project was going so well!  When we received the final production proofs in all seven languages, we discovered there was an unfortunate green colour cast on a couple of the brown Revelation card backs. We informed the factory and they decided to reprint these cards.  As a result, this has made quite a dent in the contingency buffer of our planned schedule.

The good news is I’ve now received the reprinted cards, which are now fine, and the factory's assembly process is finishing up within this coming week.

The games are now due to ship out of the factory in the first week of September. This is a bit disappointing as the ships containing AuZtralia should have been arriving at their destination countries around then. However, it is still possible that some regions may get their fulfilment underway by the end of September, although most will likely be into mid-October before fulfilment can begin.

Once the ships leave China,  each publishing partner will assume responsibility for the fulfilment of their language edition, and will contribute their plans/dates to future updates here. Wherever in the world you are, you will know the likely schedule for your own delivery.

Please trust that we are all working hard to speed up the freight, delivery and fulfilment processes and avoid any further delays.

Address updates
If you need to change your delivery address, you have approx 2 weeks left before we lock down the Backerkit address data. After this cutoff you’ll need to email me directly so I can update the reports being provided to the fulfilment partners.

Games I’ve been playing: P.I., The Mind, Decrypto, Werewords, Village, GanzSchonClever.
Games I need to play, as they’ve arrived: Brass, Western Legends, Everdell, Masque of the red Death.

As always, thanks for your support and patience in these final stages.

Manufacturing reaches the final stage
over 1 year ago – Sat, Jul 14, 2018 at 12:51:56 AM

I am very excited to report that this week I received a mass production proof copy. The next stage is to assemble everything, so I believe we are still on track for the planned September fulfillment.

Here is a quick unboxing video (49sec)

Everything looks great, and I have given the go-ahead for our manufacturer to proceed to the assembly stage.

A scary thought about logistics: I am just getting my head around the fact there will be seven 40 foot shipping containers loaded with AuZtralia departing China in the next few weeks to various destinations around the globe!

Pledge manager closing!

We have locked down 98% of backers surveys and charged the shipping payments. You can still access this, in case you need to change your delivery address. We'll give plenty of warning as to when the delivery addresses are being locked in - it will be much closer to the delivery time.

HOWEVER, if you are one of the following, then time is running out.

  • 18 Backers pledged $69 for the game but have not filled the survey, so we don't know your address.
  • 8 Backers filled the survey but haven't paid their shipping fee.

If you do not complete your Backerkit survey and pay your shipping fee by the end of July, you may experience a delay in fulfillment and we will not be able to guarantee that your shipment will be customs friendly!

Also: Pre-orders for non-English editions will be closing on Monday 16th July.

Not too soon to think about Christmas!

We have a special bundle deal which is available in the USA. We are clearing stock from Amazon and you can benefit!  Get three great games for the price of two AND as a thank you for being a backer, when you use the code AUZTEN at the SchilMil store you will receive ten New Zealand dollars off the list price of US$75 and free shipping!!
These games are very limited in stock and we hope to sell them all. Delivery in the USA will be via Amazon. Want to read more ...

As always, we couldn't have done this without you. You're the best!

More news soon.

BackerKit pledge manager closing soon!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Jun 22, 2018 at 01:06:11 AM

Last call for addresses and shipping payments!

The Pledge Manager will be closing end of June - just over 1 week from now. If you do not complete your Backerkit survey and pay your shipping fee by this time, you may experience a delay in fulfillment and we will not be able to guarantee that your shipment will be customs friendly!

There is an additional 30-day grace period after the deadline where you can contact us to complete your pledge manager. If we still have not heard from you by that point, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fulfill your reward and you may be issued a coupon code in lieu of a reward. If you do not think you will be able to complete the pledge manager by the deadline or the following grace period, please contact us beforehand so we can make arrangements for you.

If you are in a group pledge and the backer is 'Tom' - he is one of the few dozen backers who have not yet replied, so we have no delivery address or shipping payment.  If you read this please ask him to complete his survey. He is not responding to my messages!

You can access your survey at Backerkit here.

In other news...

The manufacturing is under way and seems to be on target for completion by the end of July, which is bang on schedule as it will allow international freight to happen in August and local fulfilment in September as we planned.

The Kickstarter and pre-order copies of the game will be sent to all our backers in special packaging prepared at the factory. The carton has internal corner protectors, so your game should arrive in good condition, as well as reducing the amount of handling time at the fulfillment centres.

Greetings from wintry New Zealand.
